Effective May 20, 2026
These Terms govern your access to and use of the North Star Immigration Toolbox. By creating an account or using any tool, you agree to them.
© 2026 North Star Immigration Law Inc. All rights reserved. The North Star Immigration Toolbox, including all text, designs, software, branding, tool methodologies, and outputs generated through the tools, is the property of North Star Immigration Law Inc. or its licensors and is protected by Canadian and international copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, modify, distribute, resell, or republish any part of the Toolbox without our prior written permission, except as expressly permitted in these Terms of Use.
These Terms of Use (the “Terms”) govern your access to and use of the North Star Immigration Toolbox (the “Toolbox”), a collection of immigration-related tools provided by North Star Immigration Law Inc. (“North Star,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). By creating an account or using any tool on the site, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Toolbox.
The Toolbox is a set of online tools — some of which use artificial intelligence — built on our team’s subject-matter expertise in Canadian immigration law. Current and planned tools include:
The Toolbox provides information and document outputs as a resource. It is not a substitute for advice from a qualified lawyer. Using the Toolbox does not create a lawyer-client (solicitor-client) relationship between you and North Star. Outputs must be reviewed by a Canadian immigration lawyer before acting on them. See also our Disclaimer.
The Toolbox is currently in beta and free to use. We may introduce paid features in the future under a freemium model. If pricing applies to features you use, we will give you notice and a reasonable opportunity to review the updated terms before any charges begin.
You agree not to:
You retain ownership of the information you enter into the Toolbox — for example, job descriptions, candidate or client facts, and saved work. You grant us a limited licence to host, process, and display your content for the purpose of operating the Tools and providing the services to you. We do not claim ownership of your content.
The Toolbox and Tools, including software, designs, branding, text, methodologies, and the AI-assisted outputs we generate, belongs to North Star or our licensors and is protected by Canadian and international intellectual property law. You may use Toolbox outputs in your own work or to support your clients, but you may not resell or redistribute them as a standalone product.
Some tools use artificial intelligence to draft outputs (for example, TEER analyses and comparison charts). AI can produce inaccurate, incomplete, or out-of-date results. You are responsible for verifying every output before relying on it, and for ensuring that any document submitted to a government authority is accurate and complete.
We may add, change, suspend, or discontinue any tool at any time. We try to give reasonable notice for material changes but cannot always do so. During the beta period, the Toolbox is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, North Star, our lawyers, employees, and contractors are not liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your use of the Toolbox, including any decision you make in reliance on a tool output. Our total liability for any direct damages is limited to the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the relevant tool in the 12 months before the claim, or (b) one hundred Canadian dollars (CAD $100).
Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be excluded under applicable Canadian law (for example, certain consumer protection rights).
You agree to indemnify and hold North Star harmless from any third-party claim arising from your misuse of the Toolbox, your violation of these Terms, or your submission of Toolbox outputs to authorities without appropriate professional review.
You may stop using the Toolbox and close your account at any time. We may suspend or close your account if you violate these Terms or if we discontinue the service. Sections covering intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity, and governing law survive termination.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. The courts of Nova Scotia have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, unless mandatory consumer protection laws require otherwise.
We may update these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will notify you (for example, by email or an in-app notice) and give you a reasonable period to review before they take effect. Continued use of the Toolbox after the effective date means you accept the updated Terms.
